Physiotherapists perceptions of exercise as an alternative to chest physiotherapy in young people with cystic fibrosis.

 Invitation to research

You are invited to take part in a research study being conducted by a physiotherapist student as part of a university research project. The study is being undertaken in fulfilment of academic requirements at Manchester Metropolitan University and is supervised by an academic member of staff within the physiotherapy programme.

Why have I been invited?

You have been invited to take part in the study as you are a qualified physiotherapist with experience or professional interest in working with people with cystic fibrosis and/or respiratory physiotherapy.

Do I have to take part?

Taking part in this study is entirely voluntary. It is up to you to decide whether to participate. If you choose to take part, you will be asked to provide informed consent before the interview begins.

What will I be asked to do?

If you agree to take part, you will be asked to participate in a one to one semi-structed interview. The interview will last approx. 30-45 minutes. Interview will take place on Microsoft Teams or telephone audio recorded via Teams. You will be asked questions about your knowledge, experience and views on exercise and chest physiotherapy in the management of people with cystic fibrosis.

Are there any risks if I participate?

There are no risks associated with taking part in this study. Some questions may encourage you to reflect on clinical decision making; however, you will not be asked to disclose sensitive, personal, or identifiable patient information. There is a possibility that you may feel mild discomfort when reflecting on areas of uncertainty or professional challenge; you may decline to answer. This risk is considered low, unlikely need for risk assessment.

Are there any advantages if I participate?

There is no reward for taking part in this study, However, you may benefit indirectly from the opportunity to reflect on their professional practice and contribute to research that aims to improve understanding of physiotherapy decision making in cystic fibrosis care.
