In August this year, Cystic Fibrosis patient, Jess Spoor cycled on her electric bike from Leeds over the Pennines from Whitehaven to Tynemouth raising over £6,500 for Cystic Fibrosis Care.
30 year old Jess from Chapel Allerton in Leeds took her own oxygen tank to complete the gruelling 150 mile ride. Currently Jess’s lung function capacity is 34%. If it falls to 30% she will qualify to be on the waiting list for a double lung transplant.
Jessica, who was born with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic lung disease, enjoyed a full and active life until last March when she started suffering from repeated chest infections, she had to make the tough decision to leave her job in human resources at Asda in Morley. She was a keen runner and gym-goer until her health deteriorated.
Jess lives near the Leeds St James Cystic Fibrosis Unit for her treatment.
Patricia Kilpatrick said, “Jess donation will go towards capital improvements to the main Cystic Fibrosis Centre for care in Leeds at St James Hospital and the Seacroft Outpatients department which currently cares for 430 adult Cystic Fibrosis patients.”
Yorkshire based, Cystic Fibrosis Care is raising money to remove carpets and replace with hygienic flooring. The charity will also sound proof clinic rooms and buy new state of the art lung function software and clinical equipment.
