Cara and Rachel Take on the Belfast Half Marathon for CF Care
Huge congratulations to Cara Donkin and Rachel Suitor for completing the Belfast Half Marathon on Sunday 21st September in support of Cystic Fibrosis Care. The fantastic funds they have raised will go directly to help people with CF at the Belfast CF Unit, providing practical assistance for patients and their families.
For Cara, this challenge was deeply personal. On her fundraising page, she shared:
“So we have made the crazy decision to run our first half marathon. My running BFF Rachel Suitor and I have been training hard, but this year with the help of Core Fitness NI and our running coach Davy, we are as ready as can be.
This is the biggest challenge I/we have ever attempted. We are hoping by trying to raise money for a charity which is so close to my heart, this will give us that strength and motivation to make it to the end. 💜
It’s been almost 13 years now since I lost Leanne in her fight with Cystic Fibrosis, but she is still with me every day.
Leanne was only 29 years old when we lost her. Her beautiful daughter was only 9 at the time. 12.12.2012 is a date which will always be remembered.
Leanne’s mum Yvette, dad John and family and friends know how much any money at all can help those patients suffering with even the simplest of things. We have asked for any funds raised to be allocated to Northern Ireland as there are no other charities specifically dedicated to CF care at home.
CF has touched the lives of many people close to us, friends, family and others we care about. Watching the daily battles they face is heart-breaking and inspiring! This is not just a cause, it’s personal.”
Everyone at Cystic Fibrosis Care is so grateful to Cara and Rachel for their incredible effort, dedication, and generosity. Their determination not only honours Leanne’s memory but also brings real, practical help to those living with Cystic Fibrosis in Northern Ireland.
Thank you Cara and Rachel for making such a difference—you are truly amazing!
