Cystic Fibrosis Care is delighted to report that the state-of-the-art Fibroscan liver scanner purchased by CF Care is now in use at the Leeds CF Unit, under the expert care of Professor Daniel Peckham.

This vital piece of equipment, costing £80,000, was made possible thanks to a remarkable £50,000 donation from the Yorkshire charity Clay Days event in May 2024, along with additional support from our generous donors.

The liver scanner is particularly important for people with cystic fibrosis, as some of the latest CF modulator drugs, while life-changing, can cause liver toxicity. This means patients need regular check-ups to monitor their liver function. The Fibroscan enables quick, painless, and non-invasive assessments, helping clinicians detect and address any liver complications early. This scanner was purchased for the exclusive use of CF patients, helping to reduce waiting times and minimise any risk of cross-infection compared with using shared hospital equipment.

We are hugely grateful to the Yorkshire Charity Clay Days organisers, our supporters, and the dedicated team at Leeds for helping bring this important project to life.

Together, we are improving the quality of care for people with CF.
